Bostwick, built by a slave trader and home to the first Navy Secretary
1746
Bladensburg, Maryland
The date plaque reads 1746 and the builder was Christopher Lowndes, a merchant whose business included trading in enslaved people at the tobacco port below the house. His son in law Benjamin Stoddert, the first Secretary of the Navy, lived here afterwards. It is the oldest building still standing in Bladensburg.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
