Beall's Pleasure, built for the first Secretary of the Navy to summer in
1795
Landover, Maryland
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The land came from Colonel Ninian Beall, who helped establish the first Presbyterian church in Prince George's County. The two storey Federal brick house on it went up in 1795 as a summer place for Benjamin Stoddert, who became the first Secretary of the Navy four years later. A brick wing and a new garden were added in 1936, the garden laid out by Boris Timchenko, for years the chief designer of Washington's annual flower and garden show.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
