Illinois passed a school sanitation law in 1915 that set standards for lighting, ventilation, playground space and indoor plumbing. This red brick one room schoolhouse, put up in 1917 and 1918 to replace a crumbling mid nineteenth century building, was among the first in DuPage County built to the new plan, and it follows the state's recommended layout almost exactly. Consolidation closed it in 1963.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
