Big Basin Redwoods State Park, California

A group of writers and photographers camped in this basin, watched the loggers working toward it, and formed a club that lobbied the legislature until the state bought the grove, the first park California ever protected. The CZU fire burned through nearly all of it in 2020. Most of the old-growth redwoods lived: their bark is a foot thick and they are built for this.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
