Coast redwoods reach over 350 feet, taller than anything else alive, and pull water to the top partly by absorbing fog through their needles. The tallest known, Hyperion, was measured at 380 feet in 2006 and its location is kept secret, visitors trampling the root zone got the trail to it closed entirely in 2022. About 95 percent of the old growth was cut before any of it was protected.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
