Betsy Rawls wins the 1951 U.S. Women's Open at Druid Hills
1951
Druid Hills Golf Club, DeKalb County, Georgia
Betsy Rawls was 23 and in her first year as a professional when she took the sixth U.S. Women's Open on this course in September 1951, finishing five strokes clear of Louise Suggs. It was the first of her eight major titles and the first of four wins in this championship. The LPGA was running the event itself at the time and had been asking the USGA to take it over, which it did in 1953.
