Berwyn's city hall and its Czech Cubist pilasters
1939
Berwyn, Illinois
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Berwyn's city hall went up in 1939 as a Public Works Administration job, designed by Burnham and Hammond in the flat brick and limestone manner the PWA used across the country. The odd part is the pilasters, which are prism shaped rather than flat. They may trace back to Czech Cubism, in a town that was heavily Czech at the time.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
