The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail runs at street level everywhere except here, where it uses the 1883 West Shore Railroad tunnel through the cliff. Getting passengers down to it meant sinking a shaft 160 feet from the pavement, and three elevators are still the only way in or out. It opened on 25 February 2006 and carries more riders than any other stop on the northern half of the line.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
