Bay View Hospital, the Sheppard family's osteopathic hospital in a carbon magnate's mansion

Richard Sheppard bought the 24 room lakefront mansion built for Washington H. Lawrence, president of the National Carbon Company, and opened a 75 bed osteopathic hospital in it in October 1948. His son Sam Sheppard practised here as a neurosurgeon until his wife Marilyn was killed in 1954 and he was convicted of her murder, a conviction the Supreme Court threw out in 1966 over the press coverage of the trial. The hospital closed in 1981 and the mansion is now condominiums.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
