Barringer High School, the third oldest public high school in the country
1838
Parker Street, North Ward, Newark, New Jersey
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Newark opened a public high school in 1838, early enough that it is generally counted the third oldest in the United States. It was renamed in 1907 for William Barringer, the superintendent who built its second home in the years before 1899. It stands beside Branch Brook Park in the North Ward and is now Barringer Academy of the Arts and Humanities.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
