Aliana is built on two thousand acres of the Harlem prison farm

Texas bought this Brazos bottomland in the mid 1880s and worked it as the Harlem prison farm, raising sugarcane with prisoner labour, running a brick plant and shipping the crop out on its own rail spur until 1929. Developers took about 2,044 acres of the old farm for a master-planned community that began selling in 2008. Archaeologists walked the entire tract on both sides of Oyster Creek and deep tested it before the houses went up. Aliana now covers roughly 2,300 acres in thirteen subdivisions and carries a Richmond address despite being in no city at all.
