Akers Mill grinds flour for Atlanta groceries on Rottenwood Creek

At least two nineteenth century mills stood on Rottenwood Creek here, the gristmill cut into the bank on six terraces so each level handled a different stage of the work. The Akers family bought the complex in 1873 and ground flour and meal for their Atlanta grocery stores, employing about sixty people and putting up a small village of housing south of the mills. Akers Mill Road still carries the name past the office towers.
