Orange Grove Flour Mill, once the largest east of Minneapolis
1856
Patapsco Valley, Maryland
A modest gristmill went up on the Patapsco in 1856 and grew into a five storey plant run by the C.A. Gambrill company, turning out between 1,200 and 1,500 barrels a day. Its flour shipped in string tied white bags marked Patapsco Superlative, and a swinging bridge carried millworkers over from twelve houses on the Howard County bank. A fire that started in the engine room on 6 May 1905 took the mill and the train station, and neither was rebuilt.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
