A tornado wipes out Cedar Hill and costs it the county seat
1856
Cedar Hill, Texas

Peters Colony settlers took up the cedar covered ridge here in the 1840s, and the town that grew on a branch of the Chisholm Trail served for a time as the seat of Dallas County. On 29 April 1856 a tornado tore through it, killed nine people and left almost nothing standing. Dallas took the county seat and kept it. Cedar Hill spent the next century as a farm town on the escarpment before the suburbs reached it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
