A Mountain, a volcanic butte carved with Hohokam petroglyphs
1918
Tempe, Arizona
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The andesite hill above the Salt River crossing carries hundreds of petroglyphs pecked into its rock by the Hohokam, and the O'odham name for it is ʼOidbaḍ Doʼag. Students later set a large concrete letter A near the summit and painted it gold, which is what almost everyone in the valley calls the hill now. The trail up passes both on the same walk.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
