A sandstone bluff with a reliable pool at its foot, where travellers carved their names for centuries, Ancestral Pueblo petroglyphs, then a Spanish governor in 1605, then American soldiers and emigrants. Two thousand inscriptions in one place, and it is now illegal to add to them.
