The Salem County Fair has promoted the county's agricultural heritage at the fairgrounds in Woodstown since 1959. The five-day, free-admission fair includes horse shows, ranch riding and barrel racing, kiddie tractor pulls and skillet-throwing contests alongside 4-H exhibits and food vendors. It typically runs the first full week of August.
The history within reach
Swedish and Finnish colonists came ashore at a rock outcrop on the Christina River and founded the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley.
Founded in 1699 and standing about five hundred feet from the Delaware, this is among the oldest riverfront churches in Pennsylvania and one of the few left.
Artists line the paths of Josephine Gardens in Brandywine Park for the Brandywine Festival of the Arts, a juried outdoor show held the weekend after Labor Day since 1961.
This cantilever span opened in February 1974, carrying US 322 from Chester across the Delaware to Bridgeport, New Jersey.
