A three day, 42 mile race for homemade human powered sculptures across land, sand, mud, and open water between Arcata, Eureka, and Ferndale. A sculptor improved his son's tricycle into a five-wheeled contraption, a neighbour challenged him to a race, and it became a three-day, forty-two-mile crossing of road, sand, water and mud on human-powered art.
Ordered to join an expensive regional sewage plant, the town instead built a series of freshwater marshes on a former landfill and let plants and bacteria do the polishing.
