The Dublin Peanut Festival celebrates Bladen County's peanut farming heritage with a parade, scholarship pageant, and boiled peanuts on the third Saturday of every September. It has run since 1993 in a town long known as the Peanut Capital of North Carolina. The day also includes a car show, craft vendors, and live entertainment.

The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County's Parade of Nations anchors this two-day multicultural festival at Festival Park, where more than 30 cultural groups perform music and dance in traditional dress alongside an international food court.

A beer stand opened just over the state line in 1949, aimed at the dry counties of North Carolina, and grew into the loudest roadside attraction on the East Coast: a 200 foot sombrero tower, a motel, fireworks stores, and roughly 250 miles of billboards in each direction on I-95.
The Klan announced a rally near Maxton in January 1958 to intimidate Robeson County's Lumbee, and about five hundred armed Lumbee men showed up to it.
