The history within reach
Swedish and Finnish colonists came ashore at a rock outcrop on the Christina River and founded the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley.
Founded in 1699 and standing about five hundred feet from the Delaware, this is among the oldest riverfront churches in Pennsylvania and one of the few left.
Artists line the paths of Josephine Gardens in Brandywine Park for the Brandywine Festival of the Arts, a juried outdoor show held the weekend after Labor Day since 1961.
This cantilever span opened in February 1974, carrying US 322 from Chester across the Delaware to Bridgeport, New Jersey.
Delaware County put in thirty million dollars and the state another forty seven to drop a soccer specific stadium on the river beside the Commodore Barry Bridge, on ground that had been industrial waterfront.
