Art Shanty Projects turns a frozen Minneapolis lake into a temporary village of artist built ice shanties, free and open on winter weekends. The project began in 2004 and has become a fixture of the Twin Cities winter arts calendar, moving among metro lakes from year to year. Artists apply through an open call to design and staff each shanty.

Morningside filled in along the Como-Harriet streetcar line while the rest of Edina stayed farmland, and in 1920 its residents voted to break away and run their own village so they could pay for services a rural township would not provide.
Thorpe Brothers laid the district out in the early 1920s on the model of J.C.
