Yukon, the town the Navy erased for a flight path

Yukon started in the mid 1800s as the Blackpoint Settlement and grew into a real town across the water from the naval air station, with gridded streets, sidewalks, a business district and a rail depot. The Army put Camp Johnston at its northern end in 1917 and laid those streets in brick. In July 1963 the Navy declared the place a hazard to the flight pattern at NAS Jacksonville and took it under eminent domain. Tillie K. Fowler Regional Park covers the site now, and the brick roads are still there as a walking trail.
