Yesler's mill and Skid Road
1853
Pioneer Square, Seattle
Henry Yesler built the first steam sawmill on Puget Sound, and logs were skidded down a corduroy track to the water. The street kept the name Skid Road. As the district declined it entered the language as skid row.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
