The oldest buildings on this seven acre site went up in 1860 for the Passaic Zinc Works, on the bank of the Morris Canal. Whitlock Cordage took the site over and built the rest from 1905, spinning rope that the trade rated the strongest made anywhere. The company closed in 1960 and the canal beside it was filled in, but the mill buildings survived and are now apartments.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
