Forever wild forbids cutting the forest preserve, so a highway to the summit of a High Peak needed a constitutional amendment, which it got as a memorial to the First World War dead. A lift and a tunnel through the rock take you the last stretch. It has the largest vertical drop in the eastern United States and is the only High Peak most visitors ever stand on.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
