Westchester built overnight for aircraft workers

Fred Marlow and Fritz Burns bought hog farms and bean fields around Manchester and Sepulveda and put up thousands of small, fast, nearly identical houses for workers at Northrop, Douglas and Hughes. Federal wartime lending made the mortgages possible and the tracts filled as quickly as they were framed. Open land became a neighbourhood of tens of thousands in under a decade.
