Versailles Township was named to thank the French for the Revolution
1788
Versailles Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
When the Allegheny County court first met in 1788 it cut the county into seven townships, and this one took the name of Versailles in gratitude for the French alliance in the Revolution. It covered everything east of the Monongahela between Turtle Creek and the Youghiogheny. McKeesport broke off in 1842, the rest split into North and South Versailles in 1869, and later divisions produced Wall, East McKeesport, White Oak and pieces of Wilmerding and Trafford.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
