Valmont loses the county seat and the printing press goes with it
1865
Valmont, Boulder County, Colorado

Valmont was platted in 1865 and for a few years rivalled Boulder, running three blacksmith shops, two hotels, two general stores and the county's first newspaper. Boulder was named county seat on the grounds that it published the only paper in the area, which it could claim after local accounts say some of its citizens carried Valmont's printing press away. Valmont never recovered and the census now counts its population in dozens.
