Val-Kill, Eleanor Roosevelt's own house
Hyde Park, New York

Tired of a household run by her mother-in-law, Eleanor Roosevelt had a cottage built two miles away and later converted its furniture factory into her own home, the only house she ever regarded as hers. She lived here after Franklin died, drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights during those years, and received Khrushchev, Kennedy and Nehru in a sitting room with worn chairs.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
