Union troops put the Flemings off Hibernia
1864
Hibernia, Florida
The Fleming plantation house sat on a stretch of the St Johns that Union gunboats patrolled for most of the war. In 1864 troops accused Margaret Seton Fleming and her daughters of spying and turned them out, and they spent the rest of the war nursing at a Confederate hospital in Lake City. Her son Charles Seton Fleming was killed at Cold Harbor that same June. St Margaret's Episcopal Church and the family cemetery still stand at Hibernia.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
