The park grew out of the first land the East Bay Regional Park District ever bought, in 1936, and now runs to a bit over 2,000 acres along the ridge behind Berkeley. It is named for Charles Lee Tilden, an attorney who sat on the district's first board. Its edges touch Berkeley, Kensington and Richmond, and it runs on into Wildcat Canyon.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
