This scrap of Richmond shoreline has been part of a Spanish and then Mexican rancho, a commercial ferry stop, the ground for two illegal bare knuckle prizefights, a dynamite store, a shooting range and an illegal dump for car batteries. In the 1970s the East Bay Regional Park District struck a deal with the Postal Service, which cleaned the ground up and leased 21 acres of shoreline for public use. It is now generally reckoned the largest off leash dog park in the United States.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
