Tiffany's glass furnaces in Corona
1893
43rd Avenue at 97th Place, Corona, Queens
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Louis Comfort Tiffany built the Stourbridge Glass Company on this corner in 1893, when Corona was still farmland, and hired the English glassmaker Arthur Nash to run it. Every Favrile vase and leaded lamp shade that carries the Tiffany name was blown, rolled and cut here rather than in Manhattan. The furnaces ran into the 1930s.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
