The wolves and moose of Isle Royale

Wolves crossed an ice bridge to Isle Royale around 1949 and found the moose that had swum out decades earlier, and scientists have watched the two populations cycle against each other every year since 1958, the longest predator-prey study anywhere. When inbreeding collapsed the wolf population to two, the park flew in replacements, an intervention argued over in every ecology department in the country. The island itself is the least-visited and most-revisited national park.
