A retired machinery repairman named Vollis Simpson spent thirty years building wind-driven sculptures out of scrap steel and reflectors on his farm, some of them fifty feet tall, and kept building into his nineties. Wilson moved thirty of them downtown into a purpose-built park, restored by a crew he trained before he died. They are the official folk art of North Carolina and they all still spin.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
