The Toledo War
1835
Toledo, Ohio
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Ohio and the Michigan Territory both claimed the strip containing Toledo and in 1835 both sent militias, who spent months failing to find each other in the Black Swamp. Total casualties: one deputy stabbed, not fatally. Congress settled it by giving Toledo to Ohio and handing Michigan the Upper Peninsula as a consolation prize, which turned out to be full of copper and iron, so the loser arguably won.
