Developers proposed the largest private development in Los Angeles on the old Hughes Aircraft land beside Ballona Creek, and in the mid 1990s DreamWorks bought 47 acres in the middle of it for the first new studio lot in decades. Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen spent about 20 million dollars on the ground and then walked away in 1999 when the construction money did not come together. The site was built out as housing and offices instead, and it is the core of what now gets called Silicon Beach.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
