Eight acres built with New Deal labour on land a local woman left to the city, opened in June 1936. Its curator Carl Kauffeld went collecting the year it opened and the reptile house became its reason to exist. The serpentarium is the only one in the country that has shown all thirty two species of rattlesnake.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
