The Squibb Park Bridge bounces too much and comes down
2013
Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, New York
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
The timber footbridge down from Brooklyn Heights to Brooklyn Bridge Park opened in March 2013 and bounced, which children loved and engineers did not. It shut after fifteen months when its cables sagged, took another $3.4 million in retrofitting, reopened in 2017 about half as bouncy, then closed again in 2018 when its black locust timbers were found to be decaying. It was demolished in October 2019 at six years old and replaced with a steel truss.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
