Morgantown's monorail

The federal government picked a hilly college town in 1970 to prove that driverless pods running on demand could replace buses, Boeing built it, it came in years late and wildly over budget, and the idea was never tried at scale again anywhere in America. The students use it every day. Fifty years on, a system designed before the microprocessor is still carrying fifteen thousand rides a day up the hill.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
