The Senate Theater and the Wurlitzer rescued from the Fisher

Christian Brandt designed this 1,200 seat neighbourhood movie house, which opened in October 1926 and ran for about three decades before the audience went elsewhere. A group of theatre organ enthusiasts bought the wreck and reopened it in 1964, bringing with them the Mighty Wurlitzer that had been pulled out of the Fisher Theatre in New Center. The organ has now been playing here far longer than it ever played at the Fisher. It is still run by volunteers, who mark the anniversaries by showing silent films with the organ underneath them.
