The Roslyn Grist Mill, standing since before the Revolution

Built at some point before the middle of the eighteenth century, this is one of the very few Dutch framed colonial commercial buildings left standing in the country. George Washington passed it on his 1790 tour of Long Island and noted it in his diary. It ground grain into the twentieth century, then ran as a tea house until 1975, and the Roslyn Landmark Society has since lifted the whole frame onto a new foundation to reopen it as a museum.
