The Riley plantation house where Josiah Henson was enslaved

Josiah Henson was enslaved on Isaac Riley's farm here before escaping to Canada in 1830. His memoir became one of the sources Harriet Beecher Stowe drew on for Uncle Tom's Cabin, and neighbours called this house Uncle Tom's Cabin long afterwards. The frame house and its log wing were remodelled in Colonial Revival style in the late 1930s, part of a county wide fashion that followed Colonial Williamsburg.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
