The rendition of Anthony Burns
June 2, 1854
Boston, Massachusetts
It took federal troops, marines and 22 companies of militia to walk one escaped man from the courthouse to the harbour. Fifty thousand Bostonians lined the route in silence with buildings draped in black. The cost to the government was around $40,000, and Massachusetts effectively never allowed another rendition.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
