The Pepsi-Cola sign
1940
Hunters Point, Long Island City, Queens
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Put up in 1940 on the roof of Pepsi's bottling plant on the Hunters Point waterfront, and the longest electric sign in New York State when it was finished. The bottle is fifty feet of neon and the lettering still carries a logo the company retired decades ago. Artkraft Strauss rebuilt the rundown sign in 1993, the plant closed in 2003, and the sign was lowered to the shoreline park. The city made it a landmark in 2016, twenty eight years after the first hearing on it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
