The Old Slave Mart, the auction house that survives
1856
Chalmers Street, Charleston

The city banned public street sales in 1856, so the trade moved indoors to buildings like this one. It is the only surviving slave auction structure in South Carolina, and has been a museum since a Black educator bought it in 1938.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
