On the morning of 28 February 1997 Larry Phillips Jr and Emil Matasareanu robbed a Bank of America branch here wearing body armour and carrying automatic rifles. In the running gun battle that followed, roughly 2,000 rounds were fired, twelve officers and eight civilians were injured, and both robbers were killed. Patrol officers had been outgunned by their own account, and departments across the country began issuing rifles to ordinary patrol units afterwards.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
