Riders out of the Black Cowboy Association of Brooklyn founded the federation in February 1994 and stabled about twenty five horses at Cedar Lane Stables, on the low ground where Brooklyn meets Queens. They ran rodeos, parades and riding lessons for neighborhood children while teaching a version of the American West in which a great many of the working cowboys were Black and almost none of the movie ones were. The group lost the stables in 2016.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
