The Mesquite Championship Rodeo makes a Dallas suburb the rodeo capital of Texas

Neal Gay and a group of rodeo men bought C.C. McNally's Mesquite property in 1957 and opened a rodeo of their own here the following year. Rather than tour, it stayed put and ran the same arena every Saturday night through the summer, which was unusual for the sport then. It is still sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, still runs June through August, and it is the reason Mesquite carries the state's official rodeo capital title.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
