The Museum of Glass and the leaning steel cone over its hot shop
2002
Tacoma, Washington
Tacoma opened a museum given over entirely to glass on the Foss Waterway in 2002, under a tilted steel cone that covers an amphitheatre where visitors watch artists work the furnaces. The city was the logical place for it, since Dale Chihuly grew up here and the studio glass movement he helped start is the subject. A glass hung footbridge crosses the freeway to link it to the rest of downtown.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
